Upcycling and DIY

Upcycling and DIY is a great way to repurpose and reuse your old stuff. Whether it no longer fits or is out of date in style, get creative and breathe new life into your clothes and furniture. The environment (and your wallet) will thank you for it. Bicycle wheel clock anyone?

What can you do?

  1. Join your local tool library, rather than buying new.

  2. Check out YouTube and Pinterest for 'How to' videos and ideas.

  3. Leftover paint? Save it for your next upcycling project.

  4. Not confident in your skills? Find your nearest repair cafe.

Turn your old furniture into a one-off piece using chalk paint, stencils or even wallpaper to match a new colour scheme while soft furnishings can be given a new lease of life by re-upholstering or adding upcycled cushion covers. Be on the look out for old unwanted wood, such as pallets, which can be turned into all manner of things from a compost bin to raised beds and even shelving.

When it comes to your wardrobe, upcycling your clothes can give them a whole new look (and cover up holes!) - visible mending, patches, or adding some bling can make you fall in love with those old clothes all over again.
