Writing desk to breakfast bar: an upcycling guide.

17 FEB 21 | 1 minute read

With just a few tweaks, transform a piece of furniture into an upcycled yellow breakfast bar.

We’ve chosen an old writing desk, but you can apply this process to other types of furniture.

You'll need

  • Chalk paint
  • Paint rollers
  • Sandpaper
  • Masking tape

Step one: Sand

Key the piece with the sandpaper to give it a rough surface for the paint to adhere to.

Step two: Mask

Mask off areas that are remaining wood.

Step three: Paint

Apply as many coats of paint as needed with the roller.

Lightly sand between coats with a fine grit paper.

Step four: Clean

Remove masking tape and smooth out any edges with a damp cloth.

Step five: Varnish

Apply two coats of matt varnish with roller.

And finally...
