Many gardening and DIY hand tools can be re-used by others, even if they need simple repairs. If they are beyond repair though, you can sometimes recycle them at household waste recycling centres.

Check with your local council to see if they accept gardening hand tools at the household waste recycling centre. Wooden and metal items can often be recycled.
What can you do?
Instead of buying new tools, join your local tool library to borrow tools when you need them. Then they can be used by someone else all the time you’re not DIY-ing
Pass unwanted tools onto friends and family or sell online
