On behalf of Local and Scottish Government, Zero Waste Scotland has launched the ‘Managing our Waste’ campaign in conjunction with our partners SEPA and COSLA.
The campaign advises householders on the temporary disruption to waste and recycling services in Scotland due to coronavirus. It offers practical advice on how to manage waste and directs householders to check their own local authority websites and social media channels for the most up to date service information.
COSLA is the voice of local government in Scotland. We provide political leadership on national issues, and work with councils to improve local services and strengthen local democracy.
Every day of the year, millions of people rely on the services that local government in Scotland delivers. Local government spends over £19 billion a year on local services, and employs over 240,000 people - almost 10% of all jobs in Scotland. From funding to housing, roads to early years, and social care to dealing with Brexit, our job is to champion councils' vital work and secure the resources and powers they need. We are a councillor-led, cross-party organisation which works on councils' behalf to focus on the challenges and opportunities they face, and to engage positively with governments and others on policy, funding and legislation.
SEPA is Scotland’s principal environmental regulator. Our purpose is to deliver environmental protection and improvement (environmental success) in ways that, as far as possible, also create health and wellbeing benefits (social success) and sustainable economic growth (economic success). Our services include: monitoring and reporting on the state of our environment, working with partners to promote sustainable resource use, environmental regulation, providing public warning systems, and responding to environmental emergencies. We help to deliver the Scottish Government’s policy agendas on topics including climate change, zero waste, environmental crime and sustainable flood risk management.
The Scottish Government
The Scottish Government is the devolved government for Scotland and has a range of responsibilities that include: the economy, education, health, justice, rural affairs, housing, environment, equal opportunities, consumer advocacy and advice, transport and taxation.
Zero Waste Scotland
Zero Waste Scotland exists to lead Scotland to use products and resources responsibly, focusing on where we can have the greatest impact on climate change. Using evidence and insight, our goal is to inform policy, and motivate individuals and businesses to embrace the environmental, economic, and social benefits of a circular economy. We are a not-for-profit environmental organisation, funded by the Scottish Government and European Regional Development Fund.
